Downey Shines At Portsmouth, NCAA 3-Point Contest

After a much-needed hiatus following the NCAA Tournament loss to West Virginia, we're back and ready to keep the Deacon Nation updated until practice starts again on October 15th.

Senior Taron Downey began his NBA quest at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament Thursday, scoring 10 points and dropping 9 assists (with only 1 turnover) as his Norfolk Naval Shipyard Team beat the Tidewater Sealants 103-69.

This comes on the heels of Taron's strong showing in the NCAA 3-point Shooting Contest. He blew out Duke's Daniel Ewing in the first round, 16-7 (in the process posting the second-highest first round total out of the 8 competitors). In the final four, however, he was ousted, as he hit only 11 threes to fall behind the Diener cousins (Travis and eventual winner Drake) and Vermont's T.J. Sorrentine.

Stay with us throughout the spring and summer. Only 6 short months till Midnight Madness!
